Call for proposals – Interfaith Rainforest Initiative

Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is seeking a consultant to develop the Interfaith Rainforest Initiative.

The Interfaith Rainforest Initiative is an international, multi-faith alliance that works to bring moral urgency and faith-based leadership to global efforts to end tropical deforestation. The initiative is hosted by RFN, one of Europe’s leading organisations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples, in cooperation with indigenous and environmental organisations in Southeast Asia, Central Africa and the Amazon.

Purpose and scope 

The Interfaith Rainforest Initiative (IRI) has great potential as a platform for religious leaders to work hand-in-hand with indigenous peoples, governments, civil society organizations and businesses on actions that protect rainforests and safeguard the indigenous peoples that serve as their guardians.

We are seeking a consultant to contribute with the following objectives:

  • Develop and innovate strategic objectives of IRI
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of the IRI program
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with global IRI stakeholders
  • Contribute to fundraising for IRI
  • Manage the Global Steering Committee (GSC), including organizing at least one meeting during first half of 2026

The consultant will report to the Advocacy Director in RFN and coordinate with the IRI Program Manager.

Timeline

The consultancy shall be concluded by end of July, with possibility for a continuation.

Qualification

RFN will select the consultant that provides best value for money based on a consideration of a) to what extent the consultant is well suited for the task, emphasising in-depth expertise on mobilizing faith leaders and collaboration between international organizations, and b) the costs expressed in daily fees. 

When assessing the qualifications of the consultant, RFN will look particularly for the following: 

- Demonstrated experience in relevant efforts to develop initiatives like this  

- Access to and knowledge on relevant faith-related stakeholders

- Language proficiency in English and ideally in Portuguese, Spanish, Franch or Bahasa

The candidates must submit the following: 

- CV of the consultant

- A brief letter of interest (max one page), explaining the rationale for why the consultant is suited to deliver on the proposed objectives of the consultancy

- An indicative amount of time expected for the consultancy (for example in % of full-time contribution). Time for the consultancy will be agreed with RFN after selection.

- Daily fees based on 8 working hours per day

Travel costs will be agreed separately, based on economy class travel and compensated according to Norwegian government travel regulations. 

The consultant is liable for their own tax, VAT to local authorities, and relevant social costs.
